Ukraine has opened its first “green room,” a specially equipped space for working with children who have witnessed or been victims of crime. This initiative is aimed not only at effective investigation of cases, but also at preserving the psychological health of minors so that the investigative process does not leave them with additional trauma.
The opening was attended by lawyer Bohdan Khmelnytsky, who was personally involved in the development and implementation of this project together with law enforcement agencies. He emphasized that the main goal of such an initiative is not just to collect evidence, but to create a safe environment where children can speak without fear and stress.
“Children are our future. They should not suffer because of the harsh conditions of investigative procedures. “The Green Room allows us to create a friendly atmosphere where qualified specialists work with them – psychologists, social workers who know how to help a child through a difficult situation. This is not just a room, it is a humane approach that will help protect our children and their psyche. I am grateful to everyone who made this possible and brought the idea to life. Thank you for the fruitful and interesting cooperation!”, said Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
Thanks to the well-organized space, comfortable conditions, calm colors, and lack of a formal atmosphere, children do not feel intimidated or punished. This allows them to freely express their thoughts without experiencing additional stress.
Such rooms are an important step in justice reform, not only bringing Ukraine closer to the best international standards, but also helping to raise a generation that will grow up in an atmosphere of trust, not fear. The initiative has every chance of being scaled up across the country to ensure that the rights of every child in difficulty are protected.
