Bogdan Khmelnitsky, member of the Public Council at the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine, held a working meeting with Alexander Kovtunenko, acting director of the State Institution “Probation Center.”
During the meeting, the parties discussed areas for further cooperation between the State Penitentiary Service and the Probation Center, in particular, issues of interaction with the public, improving the effectiveness of social and educational work with convicts serving non-custodial sentences, as well as improving mechanisms for monitoring and reintegrating such persons into society.
Particular attention was paid to the development of joint initiatives with the participation of the expert advisory council at the State Penitentiary Service, which includes Bohdan Khmelnytsky. In particular, they discussed the exchange of experience, the holding of joint events, the preparation of analytical materials, and the development of practical solutions aimed at improving the probation system in Ukraine.
During the meeting, Bohdan Khmelnytsky was presented with a letter of appreciation for his active civic position and contribution to the development of the probation system.
“Today, it is important that probation remains not only an instrument of control, but also a real opportunity for a person to return to normal life. The joint work of state institutions and the public is a guarantee that this system will be effective and humane,” said Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
According to Oleksandr Kovtunenko, active interaction between the Probation Center and the Public Council under the State Penitentiary Service is an important element in the formation of a modern, European model of probation based on the principles of openness, social responsibility, and partnership.
